In the realisation that the City of Cape Town could not adequately provide for all the city’s recreational needs, Baltic Timber Co approached the City Council with the proposal that a portion of their land be used for the development of recreational facilities for the benefit of the local community.

With a generous financial contribution from the Company, this unused site was transformed into an attractive and well used park known as Sussex Road Park. It was opened in 1990 and is situated on the corner of Sussex and Albert Road Woodstock directly opposite Baltic Timber Co.
